Candles, Candles, Candles
One of my favorite things to do after a long day is light a candle, sit in my cozy chair and just relax. Subtlety is the key to a great scented candle in my opinion, if it is too strong it overwhelms a space. Since I have quite sensitive eyes and I found that soy candles are the best way for my eyes not to burn every time I’m in the room. PaddyWax and Voluspa are my two favorite brands – they have every smell imaginable!
Since it’s not quite fall weather in SoCal, I have to resort to lighting candles like “Autumn Harvest” and “Pumpkin Spice” to have the feeling of fall!

Losing a Loved One
Losing a loved one is never easy. This past weekend was the one year anniversary of the passing of my Grampi. I have lost quite a few people in my life, but none have been as devastating or as hard as the loss of my grandfather. He was sick for quite a while, but his loss was very much unexpected. I can still vividly remember the day he passed because I had just seen him in the hospital the day prior and I was out to lunch with a girlfriend. I got home, walked in the house and I immediately knew something was wrong – that is when my mom told me he was gone. I fell to my knees and could literally feel my heart hurting. That day will never be forgotten from my memory.
Not a day has passed in the past year that I have not thought about him or remembered the memories that I have with him. Knowing that he won’t see me get married or have great grandchildren is a hard concept to process. Even though I know he is my angel up in heaven and is always watching over me, I still wish I could pick up the phone and call him. I would do anything to just have one last conversation with my Grampi.
I think that when you lose someone you love, the grief and pain never truly goes away. It just becomes bearable. Slowly my life has returned to normalcy, but he is with me in everything I do! I love him and I miss him very much.
Have you ever lost someone you loved? I would love to hear your story…
“Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day unseen, unheard but always near. Still loved. Still missed and very dear.”

Friday Favorites
Happy Friday everyone! As much as I would like to say that I am looking forward to this weekend, I'm not. Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of the passing of my Grampi. He was one of the best men I knew and I know he is with me every single day. Remember to take the time to tell your loved ones how much they are loved because you never know how much time you will have left with them. I will be sharing more about my Grampi on Monday...stay tuned.

One Dress, Two Ways
A lot of times, we tend to buy clothes on impulse and not think about how they can be worn with our wardrobes. Lately I have been trying to buy accessories that will work with pieces that are already in my closet. Mixing and matching is the perfect way to keep your daily outfits fresh and fun. I have styled this simple dress two different ways...

Makeup Diaries
First off, happy first day of October! I wish I could say that we are getting into the fall spirit here in SoCal, but with the temperatures soaring into the high 90’s this week fall is still feeling a very long way away. Sweater weather needs to make its way to the West Coast, because I am really not liking this heat wave! Okay…enough of my complaining! :)
When I first started to seriously wear makeup in high school, there was always a constant struggle of trying to find the right foundation for my skin. After going through brand after brand of liquid foundation that left my face with an orange-y tint by the end of the day, I finally settled on a powder foundation from Clinique that doesn’t make me look like an Oompa Loompa by nightfall. I should note that I have very fair skin!
Just recently I was in my local mall and stopped in the bareMinerals store to see what the craze was all about with their new bareSkin® Pure Brightening Serum Foundation. I explained my past foundation problems with the lovely store associate and she was kind enough to give me a small sample of the bareSkin® Pure Brightening Serum Foundation in Porcelain along with a sample of their Original Mineral Veil® to use as a finishing powder to try out during the day.
Trying new foundation is always daunting for me, so the other day when I just had some quick errands to run around town I decided to give the bareMinerals a try. I was happily surprised with both products. The bareSkin® Pure Brightening Serum Foundation has a very silky texture, no scent and went on very smoothly. It felt as if I wasn’t even wearing face makeup which is a positive in my book because I don’t like the feeling of having makeup “caked” on my face. The Mineral Veil® added a nice finish and locked my makeup in place. The combination gave me a very natural look. I was impressed that at the end of the day I didn’t look like an Oompa Loompa and surprisingly my face looked as if I had just applied my makeup…no shininess and no creased lines.
Now it’s time for me to decide whether to stick with what I know or venture out and try something new for a while. Luckily for me the price points are about the same, so that is not an issue!
I would love to hear from you. Have you ever switched from a powder foundation to liquid foundation? Did you try the new bareSkin® Pure Brightening Serum Foundation? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
